This project aims to conduct a pilot study of forming Plant Fiber-Based (PFB) polymer blend using Canadian feedstock, that no only can produce drinking straws but other cutlery/food packing products. The project uses locally sourced plant fiber materials such as sugar beet pulp, spent grain, hemp processing by-products, and starch as a by-product of pea processing, combining with Plant Plus' property binding agent PPB49 to produce plant fiber-based polymer blend. This cutting-edge production costs and the carbon footprint of the final products, representing a circular economy model towards the
The objective of this project is to test feedstocks and agricultural waste sourced from Alberta, such as canola/hemp straw, spent grain, and sugar beet pulp, to develop a plant fibre-based polymer that can be used to produce single use straws and other plastic-like products.
Plant Plus is at the forefront of utilizing plant-based materials in the production of biopolymer products. Our goal is to create products that can be entirely upcycled within the system. In exploring the potential of incorporating Albert feedstock into a special biopolymer blend, we believe this initiative represents a crucial step towards achieving our goal.
Plant Plus Clean Technology (PPCT) is at the forefront of using plant-based composite materials in biopolymer production, striving to develop fully upcyclable products within a sustainable framework. This project focuses on optimizing and scaling up biochar integration into PPCT’s composite blend.
Proposed project aims to contribute to decreasing plastic pollution by improving the manufacturing process for drinking straws made from plant feedstocks.
The project will support development of intellectual property capacity within the firm.
