Genetic and Molecular Improvement of AquaBounty Atlantic Salmon Phase II$251Kvalue2023start2024end

This project consists of objectives related to genetic improvement, the expansion of genetic capabilities and baseline health rankings among AquaBounty’s Atlantic salmon lines and leveraging advanced molecular and biotechnological tools in the continuous improvement of our stocks. Baseline environmental, genetic and genomic information collected as well as development of new genetic tools will enhance the development in AquaBounty Atlantic salmon. Owing to the strains and lines necessary to the creation of AquaBounty (AQB) commercial fish and the range of putative commercial products under co

Internship 1 2021$28.2Kvalue2021start2022end

AquaBounty Canada (ABC) is a pioneer in using modern genetics to enhance growth in the land-based farming (RAS) of Atlantic salmon. We operate three facilities in eastern PEI, growing fish to market size for food, conducting research trials, and raising broodstock fish for generation of eggs. AquaBounty currently relies on one commercial feed supplier for starter feed for their AquAdvantage salmon. Good quality starter diets are extremely important for early development. During this project, AquaBounty will be comparing their traditional starter feed to another commercially available star

Youth - Detection of Single Transgenic Sample$17.3Kvalue2020start2020end

An intern would be beneficial to AquaBounty's research team as the summer months tend to bring many routine diagnostic samples for screening in addition to the R&D projects that have been planned. During this internship, one of many R&D projects that we have planned includes a study to validate a molecular diagnostic assay for the detection of a single transgenic sample within a pool of non transgenic samples. This assay will provide a reliable and much faster, more economical method of screening groups of putative non transgenic samples as they will be prepared as a pool instead of being ana
