This project involves the construction of a new two‑storey building to expand museum exhibition and public program space and to ensure year‑round access to the museum and community events. The facility will provide accessible, climate‑controlled public spaces, including exhibition areas and flexible rooms for educational and cultural activities. The project will improve accessibility and inclusivity, supporting broader community engagement and improved access to museum programming for residents, visitors, students, and seniors.
The Brome County Historical Society (BCHS) will digitize approximately 25 meters of textual records from ca. 1787 (founding of early Eastern Townships) to the beginning of the First World War. A portion of earlier text records (Pre-Confederation) are on 35mm microfilm and include the fonds of some prominent members of Brome County. The organization will preserve and digitize these microfilm reels and upload their content to the Eastern Townships Archives Portal to make them more accessible. In addition, BCHS staff will research the textual records to create and broaden records-based biographie
This project has three main objectives: (1) digitization of the collection of textual records, photographs, maps, scrapbooks, etc. pertaining to the local soldiers who fought in World War I; (2) preservation of these documents according to accepted Canadian standards; and (3) uploading of the PDF files of each textual record onto the Eastern Townships Archives Portal (ETAP) in order to make the collection accessible to a larger public.
