This project proposes the new construction and rehabilitation of 4 types of assets including Transportation Systems, Water and Wastewater Systems, and Stormwater Systems (natural and structural assets). The natural asset is a wetland development to mitigate the flow of water towards rivers and to stabilize water levels throughout the year. These multiple infrastructure projects will protect critical infrastructure, support business continuity and increase public safety in the City’s flood zone from river flooding up to a minimum of 8.3 meters and high intensity rainfall events.
This project includes 22 bundled components across Fredericton that will complete existing gaps in the City’s active transportation network, including new sidewalks, upgrades to 5km of multi-use trail, the construction of new multi-use trails, new crossings, as well as the installation of new bike racks on transit buses.
The Skyline Acres pedestrian overpass was identified as a desirable active transportation link by City staff in 2006 & brought to the forefront by a community group in 2015. A high-level feasibility study & order of magnitude cost estimate was completed in 2019 but a more detailed design is required to proceed with the construction of the project. The aim of this proposed project is to advance the feasibility study, engineering design, rendering drawings & cost estimate for a proposed pedestrian bridge overpassing Route 8.
