Commercialize clean power generation
GNP has designed a gas sealing system suitable for containing pressurized gas in expanders and gas compressors. GNP's application for the gas seal system is for containing pressurized butane in the EXPANDER-175 system (a waste heat to power system designed to recover reject heat from natural gas compressor engines). The seal system has been: 1) dynamically shop tested using air at the expander OEM facility and 2) statically in the EXPANDER system, in combination with the lube oil system. The next step in confirming the successful operation of the seals is to run the EXPANDER system, using he
GNP has developed the “EXPANDER-175” – a patented, 175 kW, modular, Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) power generation system that recovers waste heat from natural gas field compressors. It is specifically designed for oilfield applications and has been sized to use the reject heat from the most common compressor engines. This project will involve the design, build and commissioning of a test facility to enable the demonstration of unit performance, in particular: 1) confirm that the new 'dry' seal system works as desired, and 2) confirm how much power the EXPANDER system can generate.
The project is to instrument and gather run data from GNP's expander operating at Area 51 Machine Design. The results will be analysed by machine designers to help GNP determine the cause of the seal leakage currently being experienced.
