The project covers the development of a standardized haptic-enabled virtual reality (VR)-based simulation-based training (SBT) system for the lower gastrointestinal (GI) and bronchial regions. The project will involve development of a standardized Lower GI and Bronchoscopy SBT curriculum consisting of highly configurable VR training content that is closely in-line with the existing Lower GI and Bronchoscopy procedure training curriculum where system training sessions will provide real-time guidance, and comprehensive assessments.
The proposed project will involve the development of a standardized virtual reality (VR)-based upper gastrointestinal (GI) simulation-based training (SBT) curriculum leveraging through a digestive endoscopy VR training simulator along with enhancement of the hardware system to support training curriculum requirements. The standardized upper GI SBT curriculum will consist of highly configurable VR training content closely modeled on common esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) procedure training curriculum, AI based real time guidance during the training session, AI based comprehensive assessment/ce
The project involves the build out of Virtual Reality (VR) environment with 3D models, detailed motion features for the upper gastrointestinal digestive endoscopy training, integration of the VR environment with a training simulator along with realistic force feedback and training curriculum for users to the stage of alpha release of the product.
The project will involve the research and development of a VR headset-based software version-only for the Upper GI endoscopy training curricula.
Research and develop algorithms and techniques for deforming three dimensional models and detecting collisions in virtual reality environments for implementation into a digestive endoscopy medical simulator device.
The project will involve the enhancement of the Virtual Reality based Endoscopy Simulation system to provide extra features enabling a richer and more in depth training environment. The improved system will have enhanced fidelity of the deformation and force feedback algorithms used on the 3-dimensional organ models, as well as developing new 3-dimensional models for biopsy tools.
The graduate will be involved in the development a world’s first standardized virtual reality (VR) -based upper gastrointestinal (GI) simulation-based training (SBT) curriculum leveraging IHS digestive endoscopy VR training simulator, specifically the user interface, training software and touch screen development.
