The organization has established a Child and Youth Advocacy Centre in November 2017 in the Southeast region of New Brunswick, with the objective of providing a seamless response to the specific needs of children and youth victims of sexual assault.
Over the next five years, this project will deliver ongoing services to children, youth and families thereby minimizing system-induced trauma by providing a single, child-friendly setting for young victims or witnesses and their families seeking services. The project includes expanding services to provide support to children and youths of all forms of violence.
This project includes multi-disciplinary training; developing a strategic plan and making the child/youth room and interview room space child-friendly.
Boreal Centre provides a coordinated approach to addressing the needs of child and youth victims and/or witnesses in the criminal justice system, thereby minimizing system-induced trauma. The CAC/CYAC provides a single, child-friendly setting for young victims or witnesses and their families seeking services. The project aims to support the Centre to adapt their services to meet the diverse needs arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The grant funding will allow the organization funds towards a second interview room at the Boreal Centre. The project will include soundproofing the interview room; office equipment; and furniture. By adding a second interview room, the multidisciplinary team will be able to offer more investigative interviews to the population of southeastern NB.
This project will allow funding towards enhancing redesigning the website including development of interactive features and staff training to keep the site up to date.
The project will support training, resource development, and salary support to strengthen Boreal’s services for children who have experienced sexual violence.
