The proposed project will be focused on conducting feasibility studies, at R&D scale, on creating multiple coproducts from the waste stream. Specifically, the project will include: 1. Researching the specifications of low, medium, and high value coproducts, conducting chemical analysis of Mara’s waste stream and coproducts, with particular focus on the nutritional value and the specifications required by the relevant product. 2. Reviewing literature and researching methods to separate lipid fractions from aqueous phase, performing feasibility trials to extract high omega-3 lipid fractions from
As a by-product of its omega-3-oil-producing precision fermentation process, Mara produces a protein-rich stream which can be dried into a powder. Previous projects have explored the use of this co-product as an alternative protein source for various applications. The scope of this process enables Mara's customers to combine a protein fraction, with an omega-3 lipid component, providing an enriched algal nutritional solution.
