The "Justice and Freedom" Project, initiated by Réseau Femmes du Sud-Ouest de l'Ontario, specifically targets the Francophone minority community, aiming to equip them with the tools to deal with human trafficking. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by Francophones in a predominantly Anglophone context, this project aims to break down language and cultural barriers, by providing tailored support and resources. The project is being rolled out in two complementary phases over two years (2026-2028) in the Windsor region of Ontario, a border area identified as vulnerable to human trafficking.
The project will provide Francophone women in southwestern Ontario with public legal education workshops to support their access to justice in the official languages of their choice. Legal information will be focused on Housing Law. The goal of this project is to meet the access to justice needs of vulnerable members of an official language minority community.
This project entails producing and sharing online 10 podcasts through which simple, useful and relevant legal information will be offered to vulnerable francophone women experiencing situations of domestic violence.
The project will provide a legal orientation package that includes 5 video clips, a French legal referral program and online legal training. The goal of the project is to make legal information accessible to francophone women and thus increase access to justice in an official language minority community.
This 46-month project will address organizational capacity needs to allow the Réseau-Femmes du Sud-Ouest de l'Ontario (RFSOO) to continue promoting social and systemic change towards gender equality. Organizational capacity will be enhanced through improved governance, strategic and succession planning, implementation of results-based management, and an organizational financial health and sustainability plan. The supplemental funds will be used to hire support staff; train staff on integrating information and communication technology into the workplace; obtain an online counselling system;
