The project will provide cultural interventions and healing opportunities for victims of crime. It will include inter-departmental coordination, while raising awareness among victims and their rights, and providing information and advocacy to navigate the justice system.
This project will identify customs, protocols, laws and legal orders by engaging with Elders and Knowledge Weavers; engage the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh people; draft Sḵwx̱wú7mesh customs and protocols; collaborate with experts such as legal advisors at the Indigenous Law Research Unit at University of Victoria; finalize and codify Sḵwx̱wú7mesh customs and protocols. The project will carry out research, draft customary and community-based laws, share information with other treaty groups (6, 7, 8) and hold a stakeholder conference to educate on customary laws and practices.
This multi-year project supports core capacity for ongoing consultation and cooperation activities in the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UN Declaration), the UNDA and measures included in the Action Plan.
