This contribution supports the creation of the T’Sou-ke Cheea- nun Southern Resident Killer Whale and Marine Centre (Field Station) for Sustainability and Innovation and its mandate to facilitate on-water marine research, education, and stewardship activities, much of which focuses on the protection and recovery of Southern Resident Killer Whales. The contribution also enhances the development and integration of indigenous and non-indigenous scientific and traditional knowledge of the natural processes and human impacts on the marine ecosystem.
This project involves two interconnected systems. A rainwater retention system that will flow into a bioswale to naturally manage rainwater and stormwater, as well as increase flood and drought resilience. A greenspace, healing garden, and healing courtyard to improve soil and air quality, provide ecosystem services, and increase public access to greenspace.
This contribution supports the development and planning of the Indigenous-led Westcoast Stewardship Corridor through enabling outreach of First Nation leadership, a regional gathering or Nations whose territories are within the corridor, a communications plan, on-the-ground conservation activities, youth training, and a gap analysis, mapping and a road map for the future of the project.
