This project will support the company to scale-up its patented manufacturing process to produce nanofiber material that can be used in the manufacturing of medical and N95 masks.
In this project we (BIG-nano) with the technical support of the NRC Advanced Materials Boucherville researchers, are attempting to produce compostable meltblown material to create compostable medical masks. If successful, this project would broaden BIG-nano's product line while offering a greener more environmentally friendly solution to the PPE masks market.
This project aims to scale up the production rate of meltblown nonwoven nanofibers. The modular nozzles would be designed to extend the nozzle’s dimension while the nozzle’s structure would be optimized to produce high-performance nanofiber filtration media.
A transformative project focused on developing a nanofibrous separator for lithium-ion batteries. Introduction of a novel nanotechnology for the lithium-ion battery industry, energy storage and electrified devices by introducing an innovative separator that enhances battery performance, safety, energy consumption, and overall efficiency. In response to sustainable practices, design attributes of the separator will prioritize safety, extend shelf life, and minimize battery waste by leveraging biodegradable and compostable materials to deliver an eco-conscious solution.
The project is to design a new modular nanofiber making nozzle (head, manifold, nozzles) to produce melt-blown fabric materials. BIG-nano would design and manufacture the nozzle with the support of Renishaw Canada (Contractor) for 3D additive metal printing technology. The nozzle would then be tested under normal manufacturing conditions to evaluate its performance. Independent certifications on the resulting material(s) would be performed by APC Filtration (Contractor).
The project will support development of intellectual property capacity within the firm.
The purpose of the Canadian International Innovation Program (CIIP) contribution agreement is to support Canadian SMEs identify international partners in CIIP target countries for industrial research and development collaboration that has good potential for commercialization.
