Boating Safety Speaks (BoSS) is a national initiative to deliver boating safety messages like they have never been delivered before. Over its 3 years, 6 individual campaigns using Augmented Reality, an immersive interactive learning experience for boaters, will be created on subjects to reduce the frequency, duration, and severity of SAR missions. CSBC's relationships with boating safety stakeholders, marine industry, and media will be leveraged to get maximum exposure for a small media budget.
This project will educate Indigenous youth in northern communities across Canada about boating/water safety, including a winter ground/ice-based SAR prevention course to be delivered in the Fall and a summer ground/water-based course to be delivered in the Spring.
Shock and Awe (S&A) is a national, prevention program to reduce the incidence and enhance the effectiveness of SAR by proving to Canadian boaters that they can drown more easily than they think during an accidental immersion, with the end goal of increasing lifejacket wear.
The nucleus of SARSmart is an experiential survival/self-rescue video course, based on a Bootcamp incorporating elements of cold-water survival, ice safety, self-rescue, hypothermia awareness & care of a hypothermic subject. For relevancy, volunteer representatives from northern regions will participate & learn what it takes to be SARSmart. It will be recorded, incorporating the education & interviews of participants sharing their experiences, new knowledge & relatability to their lives. Once completed, community outreach will occur on many platforms.
