The Project applies quantum sensing to photonic measurements of a ring resonator containing a phase-shifted fibre Bragg grating. Quantum-based interrogation promises to improve the sensitivity of the device by an order of magnitude. For measurements of strain, this will result in a sensitivity at the level of pico-strain. In order to increase the measurement sensitivity beyond the quantum limit (SQL), the interferometer will be probed with a superposition of coherent light and squeezed light (squeezed state of light). A very sensitive balanced homodyne detection will be used to probe the inter

The Project’s focus is on engaging the behaviours and interactions of occupants and operators regarding retrofits and aims to develop evidencebased approaches to their education, retrofit selection, and maintenance frameworks that yield better long-term building performance. The Project will explore best practices in communication and education both within and beyond the building industry. Various strategies will be tested with both occupant and operator groups to determine the efficacy and persistence of the key messages. There are two main parts to this Project: • Occupant-Centered Study M
The Project seeks to develop a combined high-throughput experimental and density functional theory workflow that is informed by artificial intelligence to discover novel high entropy oxide oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts. Unique powder synthesis and characterization capabilities to systematically discover new earth abundant, high activity, acid stable catalysts comparable to the current state of the art will be developed. Computational tools will be used to systematically explore the stability and catalytic activity of compositionally diverse catalysts and elucidate the mechanism of
The Project aims to create innovative quantum algorithms for studying the dynamic behavior of chemistry within lithium-ion batteries. This includes chemical reactions and mechanisms like delithiation, ion transport, and solid-electrolyte interphase formation. The Project will be focused on dynamics as a native application of quantum computers which is a promising candidate for outperforming classical approaches that face challenges in simulating the time evolution of quantum systems. This unexplored direction is a fertile ground for innovation and breakthroughs.

Both natural and technological processes operating in the quantum domain do so in contact with an environment. In particular, they establish a Nonequilibrium Steady State (NESS), which is difficult (if not impossible at present) to computationally study or optimize in other than small systems. The Project will develop tensor network and tensor train methodologies for use on classical and quantum architectures in order to allow application to meaningfully larger systems.
Peptides are an increasingly effective and important drug modality that can serve to combine the advantages of small molecule drugs and large proteins. Yet, their discovery faces limitations in terms of cost and expertise, reducing access to drug discovery processes. Embracing in silico methods holds promise for revolutionizing biologic therapeutics discovery. However, high-quality training sets are rare, and training data must be generated specifically for each new drug target interaction. The goal of this project is to create a self-driving lab (SDL)-based discovery platform for peptides by
