Patients with advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) who are not eligible for or have failed to respond to anti-PD1 immunotherapy have few treatment options. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) directed chimeric antigen receptor -T cell (CAR-T) therapy is a promising strategy; however, off-target toxicity remains a major obstacle due to expression in healthy tissues. To address this concern, the use of intratumoural (IT) administration of NRC’s novel nanobody-based EGFR CAR-T will be evaluated in the pre-clinical model of cSCC. The aims of the study will be to determine the dosa

Many older Canadians wish to age in place, but bathroom accessibility is a major barrier due to space, layout, and retrofit challenges. To date, there is limited guidance for the functional space and configuration requirements to support bathroom maneuvers by individuals who use assistive devices, including 1) WhMD users and 2) people who require a caregiver or support person for bathing or toileting. This study will provide essential evidence to inform discussion for the National Building Code of Canada. Findings from this work will remove barriers for older adults, while also considering the

Chimeric antigen receptor T cells (CAR-T) are produced from a patient’s own Tcells in order more actively engage the immune system in cancer treatment. The CAR-T production process is highly complex and assays are not currently available to accurately predict the potency of the CAR-T cell product. This project will develop and verify a panel of protein biomarkers that measure both T-cell activation and metabolic programming in order to assay CAR-T potency using cytometry time of flight mass spectrometry (CyTOF). We will analyse Tcells and CAR-T cells from banked samples and ongoing clinical

Grab bars are installed on washroom walls to allow people with and without disabilities to safely use washroom facilities, by providing support for recovering balance from a slip/trip, to maintain balance while stepping into and out of bathtubs and showers, and maintain balance while transferring between standing and sitting. To reduce the risk that a grab bar will detach from the wall and cause a fall and injury to users, the National Building Code of Canada prescribes a conservatively high structural strength requirement. The limited biomechanical evidence to date focused on bathroom
