This project is an extension of a previous project with the same name. The goal is to establish a national research consortium on post-traumatic stress injury and highlighting other resources and research that are relevant to public safety personnel, their leaders, and their families. This will act as a way for a Knowledge Mobilization/Translation strategy. This strategy includes inclusive knowledge exchange, knowledge transfer, and effective communication processes. The project will gather and analyze baseline data regarding the mental health of Public Safety Personnel (PSP) serving in the Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteer organizations SARVAC (Search and Rescue Volunteer Association of Canada), CASARA (Civil Air Search and Rescue Association) and CCGA (Canada Coast Guard Auxiliary). The project will provide a current snapshot of SAR PSP mental health. A report will be produced to provide insights on duty-related mental health disorders affecting SAR PSP.
This project aims to gather and analyze baseline data regarding the mental health of Public Safety Personnel (PSP) serving in the Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteer organizations: SARVAC (Search and Rescue Volunteer Association of Canada), CASARA (Civil Air Search and Rescue Association), and CCGA (Canada Coast Guard Auxiliary). This will help inform the ongoing development of evidence-based activities designed to minimize the impact of duty-related exposures to Potentially Psychologically Traumatic Events (PPTEs) and other occupational stressors.
The purpose of the contribution is to provide funding for an evidence-based program designed to reduce mental health stigma, as well as to address and promote mental health resiliency among public safety personnel.
