The Project will implement or enhance natural infrastructure distributed across the city, including rainwater tree trenches, wetlands, stream restoration, and hybrid infrastructure such as bioswales and permeable land cover. Once complete, this project will improve water quality and provide climate adaptation and increase flood resilience, species protection, and biodiversity. Furthermore, it will improve livability for residents by reducing urban heat island effects, improving air quality and creating more access to nature.
The projected significant increase in the seniors population, current lack of capacity in facilities and programs, and feedback from community members, staff and stakeholders all indicate that there is a need for a new seniors centre in South Vancouver/Sunset. Having a Seniors Centre in the neighbourhood will allow for the community of seniors to enjoy the cultural identity of the neighborhood and to feel at home as they proudly share their culture and language. This Project will support improved access to and/or increased quality of community, cultural, and/or recreational infrastructure.
The Arbutus Greenway & W 41st Ave Crossing Project is a safety improvement project at one of the key intersections on Vancouver’s primary North-South greenway connection. The project will achieve a safer intersection crossing through a realignment of the Greenway.
The project will create approximately 1km of separated cycle path on the Seaside Greenway connecting Balsam Street with McNicoll Avenue by: (1) repurposing a section of an existing multi-use path for cycling and adding a sidewalk; (2) widening and separating a section of an existing multi-use path; (3) adding 1 KM of new separated cycle path; and (4) formalizing a separated cycle lane on existing street right of way. The project will also add more bike racks to increase the amount of bike parking in the park.
This work will produce a feasibility study for a 3km Kent Ave bikeway extension. It will connect a major regional east-west network gap between Ontario Street and the Arbutus Greenway.
