The objective of this project is to develop and demonstrate two Anaergia technologies for pre-treating and processing source separated organics, making it a viable feedstock for on-farm regulated mixed anaerobic digestion facilities.
The proposed project aims to develop the next-generation RNG production system comprising Hyperthermophilic Hydrolysis (HTH), advanced Biogas Upgrading (BUG), and Hydrobiomethanation (HBM) systems. This project helps Anaergia to expand the Canadian RNG market from the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW) and sewage sludge (SS) to purpose-grown energy crops and agricultural residues while also developing next generation biogas upgrading systems for the expanding market.
Currently, technologies do not exist which can properly polish the organic fraction of municipal solid waste such that they are clean and free of plastic, glass and grit. This project will develop an integrated solution capable of removing contaminants from the organic fraction of solid waste before anaerobic digestion for the recovery of renewable energy.
The proposed project aims to develop and demonstrate a second-generation OPS system adapted for the Asian market that is less expensive and easier to operate than Gen.1 OPS.
The proposed project aims to develop and demonstrate a machine learning based Recommender System using reinforcement learning and 2 different digital twin models, ultimately, to help Anaergia Plant Operators make more informed decisions, with an objective to optimize (increase or decrease) biogas production, total plant capacity, downtime, stability of biogas production, energy use, natural gas use, valorization of non-organic waste, quality of fertilizer output, based on Plant objectives and operation and maintenance (O&M) contracts.
Anaergia is a leader in the recovery of value from waste. During the project period, enhanced waste diversion strategies will be evaluated to recover plastic film, cellulosic products and recyclables in an effort to reduce the overall cost of disposing municipal solid waste.
Demonstrate an increase in landfill diversion beyond source separation of recyclables. The project explores the potential to recover the digestible organic fraction of solid waste and conversion into a renewable natural gas product.
