This project is mostly related to technology research and development.
As part of the international UKRI Quantum program consortium project “QD BioSense” (ID number 10075392) which is led by Beyond Blood Diagnostics in the United Kingdom. This project will focus on developing a new generation of simple to use, highly automated and scalable point of care cancer diagnostic system incorporating a microfluidic cytometer with biocompatible silicon quantum dots and high sensitivity camera.
Increase the production of silicon nano and quantum materials - Budget 2021
Through the Canada-Germany collaborative industrial R&D program (NRC IRAP - ZIM) the Institute for Textile Technology at RWTH Aachen University (ITA) and ITP GmbH (ITP) of Germany will work with Applied Quantum Materials (AQM) of Canada to develop quantum dot containing polymer optical fibers with sensing properties for the smart textile industry and applications such as sensing gloves and personal protective equipment.
As part of the international consortium project “Cellulose Nanocrystal Functionalized Shape Memory Polymers for Smart Shading”, this project will focus on developing a textile shading system with adaptive shading levels for the use in agriculture and urban spaces using biomaterials to improve mechanical properties and increase UV stability of polymer fibers.
Increase silicon nanomaterials production for defense, security and construction markets
Nanostructured Silica as a Reinforcing Additive for the Tire Industry
The development and characterization of silicon-based nanomaterials with a wide spectral range capable of withstanding the demands of the display and solid-state lighting industry. AQM’s goal is the introduction of its silicon-based light-emitting platform to replace and/or complement existing solutions in the display and solid-state lighting market. Our objective is to advance the maturity of this technology, its applications and capabilities by improving material properties.
Applied Quantum Materials will produce a Canadian made test kit for the COVID-19 and other nucleic acids working in collaboration with Alberta Public Laboratories (APL) and a precision injection moulding company Alta Injection Molding (AIM).
The purpose of this CanExport SMEs agreement is to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for activities related to export market development that are part of an export business case for a specific target market, particularly where activities are targeting departmental priority markets and sectors.
The project will involve the development of silicon quantum dots and other nanomaterials by synthesis, functionalization and integration into various media (solvents, polymers) for new semiconductor, medical, optical films and sensing product applications.
Participation in the Canadian smart materials co-innovation mission to Japan January 27 to 31, 2025. Delegation led by the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) to explore the Japanese market and to develop international partnerships and potential project ideas under the Japan Program. In Partnership with the Trade Commissioner Service (TCS), and Deep Tech Canada, the Canadian delegation will also receive coaching and mentoring by industry leaders, support for their international business and market-entry strategies, as well as get introductions
The expected outcomes of CSJ are: .• Youth are employed, in training or education, or in further employment services and interventions..
Through the application of national and local priorities, the CSJ program seeks to provide youth, particularly those who face barriers to employment with access to work opportunities. Funded employers must demonstrate that they are providing quality work experiences for youth that provide opportunities to develop and improve their skills.
