Low Energy Defrost and Defog for Commercial EV Trucks$4.0Mvalue2025start2028end

This project is mostly related to technology demonstration.

Automotive Converter for Rapid and Energy-Efficient Windshield Deicing and Defogging$188Kvalue2022start2023end

This project aims to provide a solution to defrost the developed ice on windshields through electrical power signals. The proposal is designed to defrost the ice in a very short period of time with respect to typical HVAC solutions. The targeted windshields are coated with a conductive solar friendly transparent sublayers that reduces the effect of solar UV exposure and allows the integration of the proposed solution.

Advanced defrosting/defogging technology development$100Kvalue2024start2025end

Betterfrost will develop a thermal simulation model for fog formation and fog prevention. This simulation will be used on surfaces such as the interior glass used in vehicles and eVTOLs. Current models treat the glass as a boundary layer and ignore the detailed thermal transfer behavior inside of multi-layered, multi-material glass and the thermal transfer at multiple boundary layers between these layers and the outside / inside air flows. This simulation will be validated against climatic wind tunnel testing and help us reduce or eliminate the need for this type of testing which is very ex

Improving solar energy harvest under severe winter conditions using pulsed electro-thermal de-icing (PETD) technology$95.0Kvalue2020start2021end

Development of a modular step-up converter for a rapid and efficient de-icing system of solar panels. The converter main features are high-efficiency, simplicity, and low cost.

Japan MNE – IDDF: Development of an Ice Detection and Deice Film for use on vehicles$75.0Kvalue2025start2025end

Betterfrost will be working with a global leader of patterned, 2 layer, transparent conductive films that can be used for ice detection and ice removal. In this project, our Japanese partner will be making prototype 2 sided, patterned films to our requirements. We will test the films and share with automakers for feedback on interest in applications for windshields, headlamps and cameras.

Modular step-up converter prototype development for de-icing and defogging system applied to internal combustion engine vehicle windshields$70.0Kvalue2019start2019end

Development of a 10kW modular step-up converter for de-icing and defogging (PETD) of internal combustion engine vehicle windshields. The converter main features are modularity, high-efficiency and variable output voltage.

ICAP 2023 – Betterfrost Technologies development of new applications for light-weight, heated window systems for transportation$50.0Kvalue2023start2024end

Betterfrost is a low-energy surface heating and defrost technology company. We are looking to identify co-innovation partners who develop new light-weight materials and focus on the transportation markets and who are interested in providing innovative solutions for the fast growing, emerging Electric Vehicle (EV) market. We are going into international markets to work with partners that provide materials and controls that will enable our Betterfrost solution to be adopted by Global EV OEMs faster and more widely. We are using co-innovation as a mechanism to develop a lightweight wind

Accelerated ICAP 2025 –Netherlands– International Co-Innovation Action Plan$50.0Kvalue2026start2026end

This International Co-Innovation Action Program (ICAP) project will prepare the firm to enter into future international co-innovation work in the Netherlands.

Rapid Deicing/Defogging of Automotive Windshields$32.2Kvalue2020start2020end

Betterfrost has developed and tested a new de-icing method, called pulse electro-thermal de-icing (PETD), which significantly reduces the time, energy, and cost needed for de-icing - often by a factor of 20.

IP Assist: Intellectual Property Strategy Engagement$10.0Kvalue2022start2022end
