The Healthy and Productive Work (HPW) joint initiative between SSHRC and CIHR was designed to reflect the interplay between health research, the social sciences and the humanities, in responding to the growing interest in maintaining a healthy, productive and inclusive Canadian workforce. The goal of the initiative is to develop partnerships that enable reciprocal flow and uptake of research knowledge between researchers and stakeholders, in order to produce evidence-informed and gender-responsive solutions to foster the labour force participation of men and women with health issues and disab

The Project aims to develop a new generation of single-photon detectors (SPDs) that combine high photogeneration gain, ultrafast response, low dark noise, and telecom-band sensitivity with the practical advantages of low cost, fiber compatibility, and scalable manufacturing. The technology centers on environmentally benign SnTe quantum dots (QDs), which have novel multiple-exciton generation (MEG) and avalanche multiplication effect to enable superior infrared photon harvesting. Building on the Project team’s preliminary achievements—including SnTe/ZnTe core–shell QD synthesis, device-level ME
The Canada Research Chairs Program (CRCP) aims to enable Canadian universities to foster research excellence and to enhance their role in the global, knowledge-based economy as world-class centres of research excellence; to provide targeted resources to help attract and retain a cadre of world class researchers to reinforce academic research excellence in Canadian universities; and to support internationally competitive research and research capacity that generates social, economic and cultural benefits for Canada.
Cancer is a collection of abnormal phenotypes characterized by malignant, invasive, and uncontrollable cell growth caused by different genome mutations and reflected by distinct genomic signatures. Treatment outcomes of different cancer types may vary, with some specific successful survival stories, but in general, cancers remain largely incurable with current therapeutic solutions. Precise personalized treatments are essential to effectively increase patient survival rates but can also be very expensive and inefficient due to higher level of requirements in diagnosis and identification
SSHRC Institutional Grants are intended to help Canadian postsecondary institutions strengthen research excellence in the social sciences and humanities. To help eligible Canadian postsecondary institutions fund, through their own merit review processes, small-scale research and research-related activities in the social science and humanities.
The purpose of this agreement is to increase awareness, availability and use of lower carbon vehicles and fuels in Canada by supporting the installation of 20 electric vehicle chargers in Ontario.
Rock chemistries measured on Mars essentially represent their integrated histories and include contributions from their igneous starting materials and possibly include sedimentary processes or secondary alteration. Lastly, airfall dust variably covers rock surfaces. This proposal addresses three of these possible contributions (dust, igneous precursor, and secondary alteration) to rock compositions analyzed by the mars 2020 rover in Jezero Crater by micro-textural geochemical and mineralogical data. These studies will aid in achieving the Mars 2020 mission goals of assessing the Jezero rocks f
This student-centered project is focused on disability advocacy and leadership. It will include the participation of two groups of students: those with disabilities and those who will be working in the human services field. The project will prepare these individuals for advocacy and leadership in their educational environments, communities, and beyond. Canadian students will have the opportunity to study abroad at partner institutions.

Designing a drug for a specific disease type is highly challenging due to tremendous molecular search space and limited understanding about the disease of interest. Successful discovery of a medicine for a target (gene/protein/pathway) usually last for many years and costs a private pharmaceutical organization billions of dollars, which in turn determines the unaffordable price of medicines in the Canadian and global markets. The emerging of massive biochemical and high-throughput genomic data acquisition techniques and the rise of advanced artificial intelligence paradigms provide an unpreced
Canada has committed efforts to push humanity further into the solar system beyond the International Space Station to more distant destinations like the Moon and Mars. However, travelling with the astronauts on these longer-duration missions are risks for muscle loss and weakness, bone fragility and cognitive decline, all of which will compromise astronaut well-being and the mission at hand. This research seeks to determine whether stopping an enzyme called glycogen synthase kinase 3 can slow the functional decline of muscles, bone, and brain not only in space but also here on Earth, providing
Rock chemistries and micro-textures resolvable by the Planetary Instrument for X-ray Lithochemistry (PIXL) instrument onboard the Mars 2020 Perseverance rover allow integrated rock histories to be resolved. The science objectives of this proposal focus on different rock components, including (1) igneous starting materials, (2) secondary salts and alteration products, (3) dust and coatings that accumulate at the Mars surface. Key to understanding the history is the Mineralogical make up, grain size and shape, rock cements cementing agents. This project addresses these possible contributions (d
