The proposed project advances research and development to optimize the impacts of Additive Manufacturing structural design and material composition, and the surface finish on space componentry to withstand the extreme thermal environments found in lunar surface exploration. The purpose of this project is to advance the field of Additive Manufacturing with respect to light weighting of structural designs for space hardware, and through the study of alloys and surface finish impact on the mechanical properties of space components undergoing extreme thermal conditions.
(20STDPK01) Burloak will develop and establish a “space”-centric Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) process for Additive Manufactured (AM) components focusing on two strategic metal alloys for the space industry; Aluminum and Titanium. The HIP process technology is used primarily to improve the material properties to an acceptable level (i.e. to reduce porosity in manufactured AM components). This project will position Burloak as Canadian commercial suppliers providing HIP services for any industry
This project is to define and develop the requisite technology, materials and manufacturing processes for Additive Manufactured satellite communications products.
In this project, Burloak will perform R&D to advance the knowledge and techniques of pre and post processing aspects of metal additive manufactured components that are hindering the field’s ability to scale production for the commercialization of space and defence. Metal 3D printing is a manufacturing method that provides freedom in designing geometrically complex components and offers solutions to lower the manufacturing cost, facilitate small-production jobs and reduce material and energy waste. However, it’s imperative that alternative solutions be examined to reduce post machining of the d
This project is critical to Canada's continued role as a leader in space technology. The support of this project will promote Canadian innovation in the area of additive manufacturing.
The purpose of this CanExport SMEs agreement is to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for activities related to export market development that are part of an export business case for a specific target market, particularly where activities are targeting departmental priority markets and sectors.
