Situational awareness is a key capability required by most modern exploration missions today. Government and commercially-leveraged missions alike increasingly need more compact, affordable imaging systems capable of delivering a range of data products. At the same time, mission constraints drive a need for improved onboard processing, autonomy and artificial intelligence to minimize volume of Earth-Moon data transfer, all while keeping costs low. This project aims to address these needs and challenges via demonstration and performance characterization of a Smart Lunar Vision System and it
Micro and nano-class missions are expected to play an increasingly important role in future space exploration as they offer quick and inexpensive ways to supplement and augment larger international and commercial missions. Despite their small size and budget, they must still be able to provide meaningful exploration capabilities in terms of payload capacity, mobility, survivability, communications with Earth, etc. Canadensys aims to develop nano-class multi-mission platform technology in support of future lunar and planetary surface exploration, with a small mobile system as a driving case.
The objective of the proposed project is the development of a deep-space capable nano-class vision and situational awareness system to support future nano missions in space exploration. Situational awareness is a common operational need for all exploration missions, from mission and scientific operations to outreach and public engagement.
This project will develop a Deep Space compatible nano-platform architecture that can be tailored to support a variety of new low cost robotic exploration missions. A lunar Nanorover is one of the driving cases based on (i) its power, processing and extreme thermal needs, and (ii) near term commercial exploration opportunity for Canadian industry with an initiative being led by Canadensys. Although the Nanorover is used as the driving concept the project aims to develop a Nano-Core electrical architecture that will also be suitable for and adaptable to a variety of deep space exploration missi
The objective of this project is to develop technology to enable a small gimbal mechanism, capable of surviving the harsh thermal and radiation environment on the lunar surface, onto which cameras, sensors, antennae and other small instruments can be mounted.
The modern global space architecture is more open, inclusive and diverse than ever before, but also more distributed and fragmented. From satellite servicing, orbital debris and contested space to Lunar Gateway and planetary surface exploration, situational awareness is a current topic of interest across all mission classes. Canadensys is advancing the development of a small, low-cost, deep-space-ruggedized 360° imager that supports both situational awareness and hazard detection for both orbit and ground infrastructure, the Nano-Immersive Situational Awareness system (NISA). The NISA system
Nano-rovers and micro-rovers will play a major role in future surface exploration because of their low cost and low mass. Their ability to operate in a rugged, remote environment is important for scientific missions. This project will answer important design questions to ensure that these rovers are ready to meet the needs of planned missions, including ability to handle terrain, mobility, and guidance, navigation, and control. Two micro-rover platforms will be used to conduct investigations in a single campaign that mimics lunar conditions. This project will help to improve the core capabil
This project entitled ""Advanced Thermal & Energy Storage Technologies for Survival & Operations of Low-Cost Missions in Deep Space"" will survey and conduct testing of emerging energy storage and thermal management technologies capable of operating at very cold temperatures that will enable future micro- and nano-class space missions to survive in the extreme thermal environment of deep space.
Advancement of low-cost, high-reliability space capabilities through UAE-CDN collaboration for government and commercial space interests.
