The CRC will provide up to twenty qualified medical personnel as surge support to the NWT. Following the Program’s governance, this project was endorsed by the Deputy Ministers Emergency Management Committee (DM-EMC) on August 21, 2021. The RFA was approved for an initial two-week period, with the further possibility of two, 2-week extensions based on continuing needs and availability of personnel.
The CRC will provide up to 20 health human resources, primarily nursing profiles, for ICU, ER, acute care and general nursing starting Oct 6, 2021 (mobilization to begin October 4th) for an initial four (4) weeks to October 31st, with the possibility of a two weeks extension to November 16, 2021.
The CRC will provide up to 15 medical personnel to work in ICU and sub-critical care in Ontario. They will be assigned preferably to a single facility selected according to demand at the time of deployment. Personnel may be rotated as needed based on deployment availability. Detailed scoping will be done once the facility is identified. The period of support will be nine weeks of operation.
The Canadian Red Cross will support the federal response by supporting the Province’s vaccine roll-out plan. Specifically, clinical and non-clinical support will be provided to a vaccination clinic in Halifax, Nova Scotia from June 25, 2021 to July 16, 2021 to increase capacity to immunize as many people as possible with both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in order to maximize protection against the delta variant. On-site services will include immunizers, greeting, site navigation, spot sanitization, safety and wellbeing, and post-vaccine observation.
This proposal from the Canadian Red Cross (CRC) follows a request for assistance in light of the third wave of COVID-19 infections in the first half of 2021 and emergence of COVID-19 variants of concern. Based on discussions with the government of Manitoba, Health Canada, and Public Safety Canada, there is an urgent need for medical personnel to ease the staffing burden of ICUs, sub-critical care, and other medical settings in Manitoba in light of increased and forecast caseload.
This proposal follows a request for assistance submitted by the Chief Medical Officer of Health for Nunavut. The request included contact tracing support related to COVID-19 outbreaks experienced at the Mary River Mine in Nunavut. The CRC will provide contact tracing support through remove services for two weeks.
