As part of the international consortium project Eureka Xecs Cluster - SAFETRUCKS - Engineering Platform for Articulated Heavy Vehicles Simulation, this project will focus on developing Vortex Studio as an engineering platform for combining software, humans, and controls in the loop simulation in situations where articulated heavy vehicles (AHV) with advanced driver assistance strategies and active control systems are evaluated.
This project will draw upon Canada's leading researchers in mechanical dynamics and computer graphics and will add significant capabilities to existing software for mechatronic systems simulation. The project will improve the fidelity of the simulation of robotic grasping and manipulation, and of co-simulation between CM Labs' Vortex Studio software and other simulators such as CSA's Canadarm2 simulator. It will extend the fidelity and applicability of the simulator to support engineering analysis, as well as support the testing of automated controllers through the simulation of electro-optica
This project will help reduce instructor involvement while increasing the efficiency of operator training as the result of higher fidelity–a closer matching of the behavior of the machine in the simulation, including its interaction with the environment, to the behavior of the actual equipment. It will also enable instructors to train an entire classroom while tracking student progress through a web-based dashboard.
Development of a complete toolchain and platform to support the creation of simulations of off-road (including soft-soil conditions) and on-road vehicles and to release a Haul Truck Driver Training Simulator for heavy equipment.
