Funding will support research and development to identify solutions to National Defence’s Challenge: Speed meets strategy: Building Canada’s hypersonic innovation network. The Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces (DND/CAF) in collaboration with Canada’s academic and defence & security communities are seeking to stimulate the application of hypersonic technologies, including propulsion, flight dynamics, detection, and materials, in the defence and security domain to understand these weapons. The outcomes of this Challenge concentrate on areas that align with immediate
The Incremental Project Grants (IPG) help Canadian postsecondary institutions ensure their federally funded research projects are conducted in world-class facilities with the best equipment and administrative support available
The Partnership Grants provide support to new or existing formal partnerships for initiatives that advance research, research training and/or knowledge mobilization in the social sciences and humanities.
Acquisition of equipment: The project aims to increase an educational and research institution’s capacity for innovation and technology transfer.

This project aims at developing a novel technology targeting computing systems used on satellites and spacecraft, with the potential for substantially extending the device lifetime. This technology will be demonstrated with a nanosatellite mission, which will include novel microthruster (used for deorbiting) and plant growth experiments. Students involved in this program will have the opportunity of being exposed to advanced technologies for data handling systems of space missions, nanosat propulsion systems, and flight hardware development.
The Project combines leading Canadian expertise in ultra-broadband mid-IR quantum light generation (Polytechnique Montreal, PolyM) and applies it to the critical mission of nanomaterial characterization and classification at the NRC, focusing on nanomaterials used in health applications. The project will develop bright squeezed entangled light sources in the SWIR and MIR for use in chemical sensing applications. The enhanced sensitivity achievable using these sources will be validated against current IR spectroscopy techniques.
The aviation industry is committed to decarbonization. Among the options, hydrogen (H2) holds great promise for long-haul airliners. Within the H2 portfolio, H2 fuel cells may not meet the power-density requirements for longhaul applications in the foreseeable future, which leaves H2-fueled gas turbines as the one viable technical pathway. H2 as an aviation fuel is fundamentally different from kerosene-based jet fuels and brings great new potentials: it is stable at the elevated temperatures of engine hot-gas path components (combustor liners and turbine blades). In addition, H2 needs to be s
Project NODE develops a new class of deterministic, room-temperature quantum-network components based on optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs). These devices, long used in classical fibre telecommunication systems and electronics, can generate, strengthen, entangle, and measure quantum light, offering a unified solution to the limitations of today’s probabilistic and often cryogenic quantum technologies. The project will build and test broadband OPAs at telecom wavelengths, explore how they operate from conventional “classical-pump’’ regimes to genuinely quantum regimes where the pump and light

The project focuses on developing numerical models (computational fluid mechanics and acoustophoresis) to predict the dynamics of plastic particles in water in the presence of acoustic forcing. The models to be developed as part of the project will identify and quantify the impact of acoustic forcing on the trajectory of microplastics in a confined environment, in order to control their trajectory under a wide range of conditions (temperature, current velocity, etc.). The model developed will then be validated in the laboratory by both the NRC and Polytechnique Montréal. The resulting tools wi
