As part of the international consortium project “SENFIN”, this project will focus on developing, integrating and testing an advanced combination sensor suite and associated algorithms to verifiably increase the subsea situational awareness and extend mission profile for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs).
Undertake national and international marketing activities
This proposal targets a multi-faceted approach to realization of a situational awareness sensor suite for AUVs making high quality information available to the vehicle control algorithms. Solution comprises a package of three sensor advances: 1) Multi element upward looking lead zirconate titanate (PZT) acoustic sensor array providing information on surface obstructions that may prevent safe surfacing of the vehicle; 2) Side-lobe-suppressed-transducer-based sonar bottom-tracking sonar implementation with transducer clamping for close range enhancement, providing subsea obstacle avoidance; and
E-Sonar will design and develop a hardware/software-based acoustic towed array for multi-channel subsea acoustic data collection and beamforming. The project objective outcomes will support target identification through beamformed passive listening.
Undertake initiatives to mitigate the impacts of ongoing tariff and trade volatility
E-Sonar will design and develop a hardware/software-based array recording system for multi-channel subsea acoustic data collection, beamforming, and processing. The resulting technology will operate paired with commercial low-frequency projectors to provide a target detection capability, while also comprising a beam-formed passive listening system.
E-Sonar will design and develop a packaged hydrophone concept, including hardware/software-based acoustic recording and digital RF transmission system for air-dropped deployment and subsea acoustic data acquisition, including limited beamforming, and signal pre-processing. The resulting technology will enable operation with in-house developed and produced hydrophone arrays to provide short-range target detection capability.
