The salmon farming industry is currently using an inefficient process to handle the movement of fish, causing poor fish health and resulting in reduced yield and higher costs. The patent pending VSI fish loading technology will provide significant improvement to the movement of fish throughout the lifecycle of the fish farming process. The SmoothMove provides a more natural environment to encourage fish movement, which results in healthier fish, improved yield, and is less labor intensive which will benefit the operator and aquaculture industry as a whole.

International Co-Innovation Action Program (ICAP) project: ECI is nearing commercialization of the novel SmoothMove fish loading technology and is looking to identify co-innovation partners to collaborate with in bringing this technology to the Norwegian/UK market and beyond. The ideal co-innovation partner would have industry experience, an established client base, and the necessary technical expertise to add value to the partnership.
The candidate will assist in the design, manufacture, installation and testing of the novel voluntary swim-in (VSI) fish pump loading system.
The graduate will assist in the development and commercialization of the VSI fish pumping system, including working with the team on system testing and documentation, IP development and protection as well as product marketing and commercialization.
Canada's Fisheries Fund will transform and drive innovation in the fish and seafood sector in Canada with a focus on developing the sector to better meet growing market demands for sustainably sourced, high-quality fish and seafood products.
