This project will support the establishment of an innovation research and development (R&D) centre and a commercial scale, good manufacturing practices (GMP) manufacturing facility in Edmonton, Alberta for the production of novel genetic medicines.
Entos has developed Covigenix VAX-001, a DNA Proteo-Lipid Vehicle (PLV) vaccine intended for the prevention of COVID-19 infection by SARS-CoV-2. In this project, Entos will advance the VAX-001 vaccine candidate through Phase 1 clinical trials to establish its safety and immunogenicity in healthy adults.
Entos has developed Covigenix VAX-001, a DNA Proteo-Lipid Vehicle (PLV) vaccine intended for the prevention of COVID-19 infection by SARS-CoV-2. In this project, Entos will advance the VAX-001-1c bivalent vaccine candidate through Phase 3 clinical trials to establish its safety and immunogenicity in healthy adults as a booster to approved vaccines.

Seasonal and pandemic influenza continue to pose substantial threats to public health and highly pathogenic strains such as H5N1 carry the potential for devastating outbreaks. The Firm proposes to develop a novel long-acting pre-exposure prophylaxis platform to deliver DNA-encoded broadly neutralizing antibodies directly to the upper and lower respiratory tracts. This approach aims to provide durable, broad-spectrum protection against influenza infection including emerging avian strains through a single inhaled or intranasal administration.
In partnership with a large Multinational Pharmaceutical Partner, the Firm will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of its Fusogenix formulations optimized for delivery of genetic medicines to the trabecular meshwork of the eye to treat ophthalmological diseases. The project will validate previously optimized trabecular meshwork formulations combined with the pharma partners mRNA cargo and Entos cargoes including DNA in small and large animal models.
As part of the international consortium project “NPmsDNA2024: Development of in vivo targeted non-viral gene therapies” this project will focus on leveraging Entos’ Fusogenix PLV formulations optimized for delivery of DNA-based genetic medicines to target cell types of the retina to address unmet medical need in rare ophthalmological diseases, including Stargardt Disease. The project will evaluate novel DNA based genetic medicines, encapsulated with Entos’ Fusogenix PLV formulations, for enhanced bioactivity, durable transgene expression and optimal tolerability in small animal models.
The goal of this project is to establish a method to synthesize Fusogenix DNA lipid nanoparticles using a single step manufacturing process. To achieve this, we will evaluate a number of methods to incorporate our fusogenic proteins into lipid nanoparticles using the Precision Nanosystems microfluidic platform. We expect that by pre-formulating one of the lipid components with fusogenic protein, we may be able to reduce the manufacturing to a single step compared to the current 2 step process. This will allow us to significantly improve our encapsulation efficiency and simplify our manufacturi
This project utilizes the Entos Fusogenix DNA delivery platform to rapidly develop, validate, manufacture and deploy countermeasures to protect the majority of the Canadian population from SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 disease.
As part of Multinational Corporate Collaboration Program, the project “Fusogenix Formulation Development for Safe and Potent Delivery of Nucleic Acid Cargoes in the Eye” will focus on the evaluation of the safety and effectiveness of a gene, encoded in partner mRNA, in correcting an ophthalmological disease when delivered to the eye using Firm's proprietary drug delivery technology platform. The project will have two phases: (1) Formulation of proteolipid vehicle (PLV) with partner mRNA cargo followed by (2) in vitro assessment of efficacy and tolerability.
The purpose of the Canadian International Innovation Program (CIIP) contribution agreement is to support Canadian SMEs identify international partners in CIIP target countries for industrial research and development collaboration that has good potential for commercialization.
