Commercialization of the company's high performance aluminum metal powders for additive manufacturing use in aerospace and automotive sectors.
To commercialize the company's high performance aluminum metal powders used for additive manufacturing.
Their technology opens the door to reducing the weight of vehicles and aircraft – which leads to enhanced fuel economies and reduced GHG emissions.
The project will develop Equispheres’ knowledge of the use of our powder in Additive Metal Manufacturing (AMM) and ensure that customers can achieve the benefits of our powder across the range of their applications, primarily using Selective Laser Melting (SLM) and Binder Jetting.
Project Volcano involves the design of the feed subsystem for our atomization reactors. The key deliverable of this project is conversion of large low-cost ingots of feed alloy into inclusion-free molten metal, then metered into the high-efficiency pre-commercial "Yukon" reactor, currently in development. The system is nominally specified to feed 30kg of molten material/hr, at a level of purity not commercially available. The project will drive up our process longevity and reduce process downtime. Currently, our process involves costly cutting, machining, polishing and otherwise processing raw
The project will involve design, development and installation of one of the key sections of our reactors known as the lower chamber to attain a controlled chemical and temperature environment, greatly improving hourly production of powders with impeccable qualities. In addition to greatly increasing throughput and yield thereby improving process economics and company competitiveness, the project will allow the manufacture of traditionally difficult but high value alloys at rates similar to less complex materials.
As part of the international consortium project “Superior Powder Evaluation – Energy Dispersion By Active Laser Shaping”, this project will focus on beam shaping for the laser-powder bed fusion process. Beam shaping has the potential to significantly improve performance of L-PBF systems. This project will test 2 product lines of Equispheres powder evaluating the effect of beam shaping on production speed and part quality.
Equispheres creates high quality metal powder for additive manufacturing. This powder improves throughput, cost, and the final properties of the parts. This project will support Equispheres in generating co-innovation partnerships with European partners in the aerospace and defense industry and who use additive manufacturing for production in their business. Co-innovation will be used as a mechanism to deepen Equispheres’ relationships with German/European partners and gain access to the growing European defence market.
The primary purpose of this project is to expand production capacity of the organization to meet increasing customer demand of Equispheres metal powders for the growing additive manufacturing industry. Additionally, by increasing the highly skilled labour force, the role will also identify and implement improvements to process and product quality within an ISO 9001 framework.
Through the application of national and local priorities, the CSJ program seeks to provide youth, particularly those who face barriers to employment with access to work opportunities. Funded employers must demonstrate that they are providing quality work experiences for youth that provide opportunities to develop and improve their skills.
