This project aims to transfer the current plant-based polyurethane (PU) thermoset technology developed for footwear to expand the product portfolio in footwear with opportunities to enter into new verticals and markets expanding Evoco's global outreach.
Evoco developed and commercialized a platform technology the utilizes plant based materials to produce and market various eco-foams for footwear components such as insoles. The premise of the current project is to enhance and further develop the technology and green chemistries used to overcome technological challenges and uncertainties for a broader application in the footwear market.
This project aims to produce a plant-based PU leather prototype product, through a safe solvent-free process, as an alternative to the current petroleum-based synthetic leathers. Our PBLA will have a much lower carbon footprint than the current commercial synthetic leathers and a similar biodegradability profile to natural leather.
RRRF funding will be used to support Recipients to address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Evoco will further develop and diversify the current Minimum Viable Product (MVP) renewable insole material to diversify for large-scale, customer-specific applications while developing the material for applications in midsole and outsole plus other footwear componentry. This will enable Evoco to achieve economies of scale, increase our purchasing power and scale up production, thus enabling greater competitiveness in the footwear industry.
