As part of the international cleantech project “FRED-PFAS Deployment. Through this project FREDsense aims to validate the FRED-PFAS system in an on-site field application. This will involve demonstrating that the system can provide accurate and reliable total PFAS data as compared to traditional lab analysis as well as validating the substantial decrease in time required for analysis (~3 hours vs 3-4 weeks with labs).
This project will involve developing two new sensors for use in complex mining tailings and wastewater samples. These sensors will be built, and working with several partners, tested in diverse water matrices
Development of methods to stabilize the metabolism of bacteria to extend the shelf-life of FRED biosensor products.
The funding provided from the Innovation Assistance Program is to assist innovative, early-stage small- and medium-sized enterprises that are unable to access existing COVID-19 business support

Major Ports spend significantly on monitoring and regulations to monitor stormwater within their systems. This project aims to demonstrate a 5-in-1 system for stormwater analysis, including testing for aluminum, copper, lead, zinc and nickel for the Port of San Diego. In response to a large target market within the USA, FREDsense is looking to work with various partners to implement and validate the use of the system for commercial installation along with a partner for project management.
As part of the international consortium project “FRED-PFAS Deployment in Japan”, this project will focus on the technical demonstration of the FRED-PFAS sensor, as measured by the correlation with gold standard techniques, but also in terms of the calculated return on investment of field analysis into the applications tested in collaboration with Kurita.
This project explores several high priority research and development angles. These include the analysis algorithm, calibration protocols as well as the pre-treatment systems.
