This project will support the automation of the firm’s clinically validated, TRL-8 next generation sequencing-based pathogenomic assay for the detection of infectious disease on two different platforms – a microfluidic lab-on-a-chip device suitable for on-demand single patient testing, and a fluid handling robot, suitable for high throughput applications.
Fusion’s current assay has a 24-hour turnaround time and a complex workflow that requires high technical knowledge. The company has identified several avenues to simplify the workflow and bring the turnaround time down to 12 hours. The project will support R&D to investigate these avenues and implement a simplified workflow.
Support for Fusion Genomics to continue operations during the COVID-19 pandemic
This project will support the R&D required to reduce the time from sample to result of the firm’s next generation sequencing-based test for diagnosing human pathogens from the current 12 hours to 8 hours. This will be done through the optimization of a variety of steps including significant reduction in the time required for the liquid phase hybridization of the firm’s proprietary probes with their target sequences.
The purpose of this project is to provide employment and work experience in a business associate role for a life sciences graduate in a company that develops and produces diagnostic test kits based on cutting edge whole genome sequencing technology.
This project will create a centralized, comprehensive and curated database for known viral genomes and pan-viral identification tools and related bioinformatics. These resources will be made commercially available to various organizations through a subscription-based model.
Fusion Genomics plans to introduce its ONETest Pathogenome, which will diagnose all known human pathogens, to the United Kingdom with the objective to close 1-2 pilot projects with KOL hospitals.
