This project will review and implement state of the art large language model (LLM) applications to support natural language querying for OCIANA users. Natural language interfaces are not being used in the maritime domain. This work will support natural language querying and evaluate use cases for UI deployment.
This project aims to improve the information that is fed to the OCIANA™’s Sequence Planning Tool and ETA prediction tool to account for vessels that are turning their AIS transponders off. This will be accomplished by monitoring vessels en route to ports in the east coast of North America. Vessels will be monitored through a combination of S-AIS data, satellite imagery and algorithms to predict vessels' position, such as path prediction, data fusion and social media monitoring. A combination of AI methodologies will be applied across the project using best practice approaches, including MLOps
Computer vision (CV) tasks (e.g. image classification and object detection) enable autonomous decision-making for a range of space applications and platforms, such as rovers, landers, and service vehicles, and reduce the workload and risks associated with humans in any decision-making loop. Such applications rely on high-performance Artificial Intelligence (AI) capability. Recent advancements in AI have leveraged the nearly limitless computational resources of cloud computing, and as such the resultant solutions are not inherently transferrable, or optimally designed, to be hosted onboard sat
This project improves OCIANA™ by predicting berth availability through data fusion of satellite optical, radar and S-AIS; and through the generation of port models using selected KPIs. Berth availability information will be used as input to a simulation tool.
This project will develop a new adaptive environmental routing model that minimizes vessel fuel consumption and distance travelled while accounting for seakeeping performances in all conditions. This work will draw upon satellite automatic identification system (S-AIS) data together with environmental data harvested by satellites to develop and integrate a coherent model that incorporates how environmental conditions affect vessel routing.
This project improves OCIANA™ by incorporating best practices in Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) and Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) into two key capabilities: Vessel Arrival Optimization and Risk Management.
Advancements in risk prediction models, vessel path forecasting, and estimated time of arrival analysis to enhance responsiveness to emerging maritime threats.

International Co-Innovation Action Plan (ICAP) project. Having gained considerable traction within Canadian civil, defense and commercial entities, GSTS is preparing to expand into global markets. GSTS is a Maritime focused AI company, delivering solutions to enhance decision making across the marine security and maritime logistics industries. GSTS is looking to identify European co-innovation partners who require marine data analytics solutions or providers of unique data sets, to support decision-makers in both the commercial and defence spheres. Specifically, GSTS is looking to enhance its

This project will develop a novel simulation tool for understanding shocks to the maritime supply chain in Canada. The project will evaluate past disruptions and how they impacted vessel traffic and use these insights to generate a novel model for anticipating changes to future events. A maritime network derived from previous positional reports of vessels at global scale will be used to visualize and understand changes in port calls, schedules, and overall volume at a local and aggregate level. A user interface will be developed to operate and generate insights from the model when deployed on
The purpose of this CanExport SMEs agreement is to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for activities related to export market development that are part of an export business case for a specific target market, particularly where activities are targeting departmental priority markets and sectors.
