This project will install innovative technology in a forest products facility in Canada.
The Haliburton Forest Biochar Research & Development project will directly improve plant capacity through process optimization and the introduction of a new feedstock. This project will indirectly support the broader expansion of Haliburton Forest Biochar to achieve targeted overall plant capacity and targeted overall plant consumption of forest biomass by 2027. Theses research and development activities will also contribute to the development of new biochar products and the scale required to commercialize them.
The funding provided by the IAP program is intended to assist innovative small and medium-sized enterprises in the start-up phase that cannot access existing commercial support related to COVID-19.
Haliburton Forest Biochar (HFB) has been developing novel biochar technology and new markets for biochar for seven years. The purpose of this project is to scale current processes and continue the advancement new high value markets for biochar. The project addresses the major hurdle of the lack of supply of high-quality biochar in Ontario and lack of a high-value market for biochar through scaling a commercial high-performance biomaterial replacement for fossil fuel products in the automotive foam and construction sector. To achieve these HFB is seeking to increase its internal engineering cap
Through the application of national and local priorities, the CSJ program seeks to provide youth, particularly those who face barriers to employment with access to work opportunities.
