The essence of this project is to establish several hemp multiplication and breeding techniques and offer them as a service to the industrial hemp industry. These techniques to be developed include variations of several propagation and field testing techniques that are currently used in other cropping sectors. In general the firm aspires to develop a deeper knowledge of the reproductive biology of hemp that will allow for development of new unique new service offerings in the future.
Expanding expertise in technical service offerings to further include additional plant pathology and breeding capabilities for disease resistance, as well as reproductive biology and crossing techniques.
Haplotech has two facilities located at the Fort Gary campus Winnipeg and LaSalle, Manitoba. Haplotech is currently in process of transferring operations between the two facilities. This process requires fine-tuning the facilities in La Salle including optimization of the growing conditions in terms of soil, water, nutrients, light and air quality. The project will engage the services of 2 Green Youth employees who will be employed to perform various duties to support this process.
The firm has initiated two new breeding programs, with canola and industrial hemp. This project will provide the necessary personnel to optimize the management of the field trials/nurseries associated with these breeding projects. Industrial hemp field trials are new and agronomic standards for the management of these trials have not yet been established. Haplotech will use this project to determine optimal conditions including; optimal seeding dates/conditions, optimal daylight conditions, soil fertility for plant growth, soil fertility for flowering plants, field trial pollen control, and si
The firm has initiated involvement into hemp breeding research. This project will provide some ground work to guide optimization of growing conditions for hemp plants both in controlled and field environment. Conditions considered include; optimal daylight conditions, soil fertility for plant growth, soil fertility for flowering plants, and similar agronomic factors.
Through the application of national and local priorities, the CSJ program seeks to provide youth who face barriers to employment with access to work opportunities. Funded employers must demonstrate that they are providing quality work experiences for youth that provide opportunities to develop and improve their skills. The CSJ program is delivered by the Department of ESD.
