UK AgTech consortium project 68296 led by Innovasea Marine Systems Canada Ind. (CANADA) in collaboration with R.S. Aqua Ltd (UK) and Grieg Seafood Shetland Ltd (UK) will aim to reduce the environmental impact of salmon farming, improve fish health and welfare, and enhance farm productivity by developing an early warning system for plankton monitoring on aquaculture farms. Large harmful algae blooms (HABs) can cause catastrophic fish-kill events. Small localized HABs can negatively impact production by contributing to complex gill disease, one of the most important health issues in Scottish aqu
This project aims to advance biomass estimation technology within aquaculture facilities while also extending its application beyond the salmon market to encompass additional fin fish species.
This project will build on our previous IRAP work by expanding the Biomass V2 camera and software into a broader machine-vision platform with new high-value applications. These include fish satiation detection, automated health monitoring (abrasions, lesions, fin damage), growth modeling, and sea lice detection. These capabilities will enhance the platform’s ability to deliver practical, data-driven insights into fish welfare and farm performance, shifting it from a single-purpose biomass tool to a flexible, multi-application system on a common hardware foundation.
The project will focus on the Research and Development (R&D) of a "micro" battery that is suitably small, and has enough energy capacity, for use in small acoustic fish tracking transmitters.
Innovasea previously developed microbattery designs for its small fish tag product line. In this project, Innovasea is seeking to verify these designs and validate that they meet specifications. Significant technical risk remains as the new battery technology is the first of its kind worldwide and utilizes novel construction and assembly techniques that still need to be proven.
This project will investigate the application of emerging digital communication techniques to extend the performance of size and power constrained underwater animal tracking technology.
The purpose of this CanExport SMEs agreement is to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for activities related to export market development that are part of an export business case for a specific target market, particularly where activities are targeting departmental priority markets and sectors.
