The Aurora-RT combines an MRI system to provide high quality patient images to ensure they are properly aligned prior to delivering the radiation. This project will develop real time imaging during the treatment. The Aurora-RT will monitor the tumor position and if it moves outside of the treatment field, the beam will pause until the tumor returns to its proper location, then the delivery will continue. This is called “beam gating”. The project will also implement an advanced treatment beam modulation system called VMAT, in which the gantry rotates during treatment delivery, and the syste

The firm's radiotherapy system combines an MRI system with a linear accelerator to provide high quality patient images to ensure they are properly aligned prior to delivering radiation therapy. This project will improve the efficiency of the MRI imaging system and develop robust patient registration. The system currently generates a 3D image as a single acquisition, which takes about 4 minutes. This will enable generating the 3D image as a series of 2D images to allow the user to see the first image almost immediately. This enables the firm to implement an automated registration process tha
MagnetTx Oncology Solutions is developing a hybrid radiotherapy device that combines a medical linear accelerator with an MRI scanner to produce the ultimate radiotherapy treatment device. This project will develop the imaging software tools required to integrate the MR images into the treatment sequence to allow pretreatment images to be compared to treatment planning images to allow the patient to be precisely positioned for their treatment. Integrating MR images into the radiotherapy treatment machine will ultimately provide better treatments for the cancer patients in Alberta, Canada and
