Crater-Based Absolute Navigation Demonstration$840Kvalue2020start2024end

Space agencies, research institutes and private organizations are looking for commercial landing services in order to reach sites of interest on the Moon. The landing systems will need to be equipped with high-accuracy navigation systems to accurately reach their target. Since there is no GPS constellation around the Moon for real-time localisation, or other readily available commercial systems to answer this need, a novel approach is needed to provide positioning of orbiters or landers around the Moon. The “Crater-Based Absolute Navigation Demonstration” project aims at filling this need by

This project entitled ""Autonomous Navigation & Mapping (ANIMA)"" has the objective to develop and validate an innovative navigation and mapping technology to be integrated onboard exploration rover systems. This technological product aims at solving a problem that is often encountered in space and also in many terrestrial applications: to enable the navigation, the mapping and the localization of mobile vehicle systems operating in unknown or poorly known environments where Global Positioning System (GPS) or other absolute navigation infrastructure are not reliable or even available.

This project entitled ""Geometric Error Source Identification and Quantification (GESIQ)"" has the objective to improve the knowledge of the spacecraft parameters by identifying and quantifying the geometric errors sources in satellite data starting from known geometric errors previously determined using ground control points (GCP). It will allow NGC to have a tool to support customers in the diagnostic of geometric error sources in Earth-observation satellite imagery.
