Niricson is developing a proprietary cloud-based damage assessment platform-AUTOSPEX to help asset owners inspect and manage their assets (Dams, Bridges, Nuclear Power Plants etc.) faster, cost-effectively, accurately, and safely. With the proposed project, Niricson plans to automate the big data processing from 50% to over 90%. This will allow more asset owners to collect and process their assets data frequently allowing building predictive maintenance models, extending the service life of their assets, and hence, reducing the CO2 emissions significantly.
Pilot a dual-use airfield pavement inspection solution for civilian airports and defence airstrips by integrating vehicle-mounted high-resolution optical data collection with an automated processing pipeline and AI-based distress detection and quantification aligned with standard pavement condition survey practices.
Enhance and improve Niricson's software, AUTOSPEX-Insights, as a SaaS GIS and collaboration platform for infrastructure inspection including visualization of AI-generated and quality checked surface (cracking, spalling, efflorescence and vegetation) and subsurface (delamination, thermal) defects, identifying areas of concern and comparing multi-year surveys to support maintenance decisions .
The project is to improve and enhance the asset management and condition assessment platform by adding 3D viewing and analyzing capabilities to help asset owners and engineering consultants to visualize AI-generated surface and subsurface defects, to identify areas of concern and compare multi-year surveys to support maintenance decisions for their critical infrastructure.
Funding under the Innovator Stream will support continued research and development of solutions under National Defence’s Funding for Canadian Innovators and Accelerators of DIANA (FCIA-DIANA) program.
Develop and operationalize AI models that automate distress management for airfield pavements to improve inspection scalability, accuracy, and profitability.
The project is supported under Fast Pilot in Foreign markets program to implement Niricson’s data collection technology at a pilot scale to detect and quantify surface and subsurface damages on a hydro dam structure in the United States. The data collection and processing of visual images, thermal dataset, and acoustic signatures will be conducted at multiple locations and a surface and subsurface damage map will be created.

The proposed project is to implement Niricson’s data collection technology at a Pilot-scale to detect and quantify subsurface damage on vertical walls of a hydro dam structure owned and operated by the British Columbia Hydro Authority. The data collection and processing in-terms of acoustic signatures at multiple locations are proposed. The outcome of the project is in terms of a subsurface damage map. Successful implementation of this technology will lead to accurate assessments of spillway side walls while saving time and cost for the inspections.
