High Resolution 3-Dimensional Iceberg Profiling Sonar System
Develop and commercialize scientifically supported natural health products
The objective is to support the deployment of technologies to reduce offshore greenhouse gas emissions or improve the environmental performance of offshore oil spill monitoring, detection and response activities
Develop an operation current model (for iceberg drift model)
This project will validate the activity of two novel pure compounds isolated from the crude seaweed extract in in-vivo testing and undertake the chemical synthesis of one other novel compound and conduct in-vivo testing on the Synthetic Compound.
Provide assistance to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19
Purchase oceanographic equipment to expand company
The funding provided by the IAP program is intended to assist innovative small and medium-sized enterprises in the start-up phase that cannot access existing commercial support related to COVID-19.
Equipment purchase
Develop a veterinary health product from seaweed extract
Install a lab and cold room to analyze seaweeds
Ocean Ltd. has successfully isolated and synthesized a novel molecule from seaweed harvested in NL waters that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. The proposed study will validate the efficacy of this molecule's open-ring metabolites and investigate the hypothesis that its open-ring ester hydrolysis form contributes to, or is responsible for, bioactivity by employing in vitro bioassays to confirm the metabolites bioactivity. Oceans Ltd.'s discovery needs to be fully investigated and patent protected in case the biological activity of the parent compound is mediated in whole or in part by the
Acquire new equipment to improve productivity
Hire an experienced QA Manager
Hire new skilled personnel to improve competitiveness
The goal of this project is to develop a wave forecasting system by modifying/improving the third-generation spectral wave model WaveWatch III®, based on Oceans Ltd.'s knowledge and understanding of ocean surface wave forecasting skills for the Grand Banks and Oceans Ltd.'s collected wave measurements in the past decades. The final product of this project will be a Linux computer scripted language-based software package combined with modified/improved WaveWatch III®. Operation of the software package will be automatized through Linux terminals.
Engage a consultant to obtain ISO certification
This project will develop software for an upgraded version of the Weather Chart Editor, an interactive GIS for displaying, manipulating, modifying, and producing meteorological and sea state data both in space and time.
Oceans Ltd is currently developing an Iceberg profiling system to collect data using a submersible remote sonar unit connected to a topside or “deck” control unit using a power/communications cable. Both the remote and topside units are controlled by small, ”Raspberry Pi” Single Board Computers. The collected data is later processed on a Windows based PC using the Iceberg Profiling Software, to produce 3D models of the profiled icebergs. In this project, the objective is to port the system software of the Topside or “Deck” unit to an updated hardware platform consisting of a ruggedized Window
This project involves the development of iceberg profiling software at Oceans Ltd. designed to process the data collected by the firm's new digital iceberg sonar data collection unit to produce 3D models of profiled icebergs. It is intended to replace the old software that is incompatible with the data from the new system. The iceberg profiler software will produce 3D images of the topside and underside of an iceberg individually, as well as a 3D image of the iceberg as a whole. The measurement of icebergs is required for iceberg management operations at all of the oil platforms offshore NL.
This project will develop a software application for the efficient production and dissemination of accurate weather and sea state forecasts to a large number of clients using integrated Internet protocols.
This project will see the hiring of a Masters of Science Graduate to develop new in-house capabilities with this firm. From seaweeds found in the coastal waters of Newfoundland, a bio-guided fractionation technique will be used to provide information on the groups of chemicals responsible for anticancer and antimicrobial bioactivity to establish a methodology to monitor and control the level of bioactivity in the prepared seaweed extract and the active ingredient. This project will develop Oceans Ltd. in-house capability for extract chemical profiling and product standardization.
Oceans Limited will hire a recent graduate to train and develop as a full-time marine weather forecaster to support the company’s ongoing 24/7 weather forecasting and associated meteorological services. Support from this recent graduate will include daily marine weather forecasting for the Firm's clientele, and research & modeling for various met-ocean research projects.
Oceans Lt. requires a full-time marine weather forecaster to support the company's ongoing 24/7 weather forecasting and associated meteorological services. Support from this personnel will include daily marine weather forecasting for Oceans Ltd. clientele, and research & development for various met-ocean research projects.
Oceans Ltd will hire a full-time technologist to learn and perform maintenance on oceanography equipment for the company. The graduate will assist with keeping equipment maintained, preparing the instruments, data management, constructing oceanography moorings as well as deploying and recovering instruments at sea.
Oceans Limited will hire a recent Electronics Engineering Graduate to support extensive development of the company's physical oceanography and meteorology programs, through the design, maintenance, and integration of vital equipment and software utilized in the programs. The graduate will be working on integrating the meteorology equipment to investigate the wind shear over the ocean and the oceanography equipment to collect and transmit real-time current measurements.
This project involves the hiring of a recent graduate from Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering to develop the software for the motion response of a rig, FPSO and the other platforms to forecasted sea states; design a console for ships to hold a weather forecasting system; and make modifications to a telemetry buoy that transmits ocean currents to oil drilling platforms and tankers.
The purpose of this CanExport SMEs agreement is to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for activities related to export market development that are part of an export business case for a specific target market, particularly where activities are targeting departmental priority markets and sectors.
Weather Forms is a C/C++ computer language software application, developed by Oceans Limited, for the efficient production and dissemination of accurate weather and sea state forecasts to large number of clients. This project will develop software for the next version of the Weather Forms application. The proposed project will build upon the current version, adding a number of advanced features to increase the commercial income derived through this application.
