This project is to develop a prototype of an ultralow-noise microwave X-band transceiver with the capabilities of both transmitting and detecting microwave signals closer to the quantum limit.
The Project is a collaboration between Dr. Louis Gaudreau at NRC’s Quantum and Nanotechnologies Research Centre and Qubic Inc., a Canadian startup developing low-heat dissipation, broadband cryogenic amplifiers. The goal is to test and optimize a kinetic-inductance traveling-wave parametric amplifier (KITWPA) to improve the readout of superconducting microwave resonators used in NRC’s microwave-to-optical quantum transducer. Qubic will design, fabricate, and iterate to improve prototype amplifiers, while NRC will benchmark their performance on resonators coupled to spin and superconducting qub

Development and validation of a compact noise‑radar testbed to detect moving targets and provide a benchmark for evaluating emerging quantum‑enhanced sensing technologies.
The Project will support development of intellectual property capacity within the Firm.
