The project will develop sustainable and economic lithium processing technology that will contribute to addressing lithium supply challenges. Battery-grade lithium is a critical component of batteries used in electric vehicles and renewable energy storage.
The purpose of this agreement is to support the development of Canadian critical minerals value chains.
Scale-up industrial saline wastewater treatment and lithium refining operations
This project is mostly related to technology research and development.
Demonstrate and commercialize industrial desalination technology
Engineer larger scale product offering, boost productivity and diversify markets
Saltworks’ AirBreather is an innovation that addresses a critical problem in the oil and gas industry: how to dispose of wastewater in a cost-effective and environmentally safe way. The AirBreather removes the need for chemical pre-treatment and reduces wastewater volumes safely through evaporation.
The project will commercialize a produced water volume reduction technology, resulting in minimizing costs, brine waste, and GHGs to industries including industrial desalination, gas & oil extraction, mining and power generation.
The project aims to commercialize a solution to the lithium raw material supply gap. It will advance a novel electrochemical direct lithium extraction (eDLE) system, enabling economic lithium extraction from saline brine resources.
Demonstrate BrineGo, a novel extreme-recovery membrane brine concentrator at industrial sites in North America and Asia. BrineGo provides 50% cost savings over evaporators, 50% less disposal trucks, or 50% smaller evaporation ponds.
This project is submitted under Fast Pilots (USA) initiative. A novel, cost-effective technology that incorporates electrodialysis reversal (EDR) step with monovalent selective ion-exchange membrane - (mEDR) to soften (remove scaling species) from FGD wastewater generated by coal-fired power plant. The project will comprise building and operating pilot plant in at the Southern USA power utility.
The National Research Council (NRC), Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), Health Canada (HC) and Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) are actively seeking innovative, cost-effective, safe, and scalable solutions that lead to the destruction of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) compounds across various contaminated solid or aqueous media such as water, soil, biosolids as well as spent filtration media such as granular activated carbon and resins.
Diversifying into international markets by showcasing innovative lithium and related solutions to Chilean producers.
An early career engineer will perform an important chemical process role in developing saline wastewater treatment, with opportunities to learn about Saltworks’ solutions, engineering practices, and market differentiation.
An early career engineer will execute important process and controls functions in saline wastewater treatment design, with opportunities to learn about Saltworks’ solutions, engineering practices, and market differentiation.
The purpose of this CanExport SMEs agreement is to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for activities related to export market development that are part of an export business case for a specific target market, particularly where activities are targeting departmental priority markets and sectors.
Participation in the Canadian circular battery technologies mission to South Korea – January 13 to 17, 2025. Delegation led by the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) to establish relationships with key customers, end-users, investors and other international firms, which will help set the stage for potential Canadian projects in the upcoming International Technology Pilot and Demonstration (ITPD) Program: Cleantech call for proposals.
