Transportation is one of the highest producer of GHG emissions. Technologies directly addressing low-GHG transport can reduce GHG to zero over time; however, this will require cities to proactively develop smart transit options and widespread public adoption strategies.SmartCone’s “Intelligent Corridor” program removes barriers to smart transit adoption, protecting vulnerable road users through “smart” crosswalks and bike lanes and monitoring car traffic / emissions in real time. SmartCone’s AI-enabled intelligent infrastructure system brings interconnectivity, high-level analytics, data coll
The firm will conduct research and development to (a) improve enclosure and connection design for ruggedized deployment; (b) further develop sensor and module AI processing; and (c) build on several key pieces of needed software, including device configuration interface and a sensor controller embedded platform.
The purpose of this project is to accelerate market entry of the SmartCone product by undertaking activities to build brand and solution awareness.

SmartCone intends to develop the first certified sensor agnostic and adaptable wearable system for industrial applications including public safety and security; see System Diagram - Attachments. The system will be based on SmartCone's patented location system and the empirically supported heat stress research work from the University of Ottawa. This new technology will enhance the existing success SmartCone is having with IBM, Nokia and Exelon Corp.
New headlight architecture and acoustic imaging architecture system.
Smartcone is currently using "off-the-shelf" electronics for low volume production. These components are expensive, time consuming and require cables which can lead to product failure through wire fatigue and connector failures.
The firm is continuously innovating and building new products. The firm is hiring new recent graduates (STEM female) to support the mechanical engineering and software engineering required for innovation in SmartCone core product offerings.
This project is to help the firm engage with European partners and develop co-innovation partnerships with European multi-national enterprises (MNEs), industry leaders, and key global value chain actors, through the EUREKA ITEA Cluster.
The advancement being sought is development of a modular unit that, through acoustic beamforming, advances safety by detecting people when they are around vehicles--such as a fire engine, for example--even in harsh conditions. The use of acoustics provides robustness against reduced visibility conditions. To be attractive as an add-on facility to vehicles, the sensor will be incorporated in a modified headlight unit that can be readily retro-fitted.
Project is to prototype a new "intelligent" Power Supply allowing for a wider range of inputs and a regulated output.
The purpose of this CanExport SMEs agreement is to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for activities related to export market development that are part of an export business case for a specific target market, particularly where activities are targeting departmental priority markets and sectors.
SmartCone had developed some unique products and is looking to file new patents. The patents will be for hardware and embedded software. The ultimate goal is to protect smartcone's products.
