The Spruce Budworm Early Intervention Strategy - Phase II Program is designed to reduce the risk of outbreak in Atlantic Canada and Quebec by developing and applying a novel, science-based, less-costly, and more effective forest protection approach that if successful, could prevent or limit an outbreak and associated socio-economic impact in Atlantic Canada and Quebec where forestry is one of the largest economic sectors. This approach could also be applied to impending outbreaks of SBW across Canada, and potentially other defoliating insects.
The objective of this agreement is to award two fellowships to initiate research in the field of biology and integrated management of forest pests (insects and diseases), through a partnership with a non-profit organization working in the field.
