To build manufacturing capabilities to scale production of its medical products for lung transplants.
Traferox will design, build, and validate a dynamic organ storage system that pumps an oxygenated solution in a donor organ throughout the transport and preservation duration, while maintaining an optimal internal temperature of approximately 10°C. The low perfusion flow will be achieved via passive components. The system will include means to track the internal temperature and its location.
Traferox will design, manufacture, and validate systems that can perform normothermic ex vivo perfusion of the liver and the heart. In normothermic ex vivo organ perfusion, solid organs are perfused with a solution containing red blood cells and maintained at body temperature. Normothermic ex vivo organ perfusion enables detailed functional assessment of the organ and assessment of their suitability for transplant. This project will create systems suitable for preclinical research.
A mobile and automated system will be created to implement ex vivo lung perfusion, a technique used to assess lungs in preparation for lung transplant.
Traferox will design, manufacture, and validate a system to perform normothermic ex vivo perfusion of the pancreas. In normothermic ex vivo pancreas perfusion, the excised pancreas is perfused with a solution containing red blood cells and maintained at body temperature for several hours in preparation for transplantation. Normothermic ex vivo pancreas perfusion enables detailed functional assessment of the organ and assessment of their suitability for transplant, as well as functional improvement. This project will create a system suitable for preclinical and clinical research.
Traferox has recently developed and commercialized the TorEx Lung Perfusion System. The technology developed and integrated in this system can be used in new clinical applications. This project will define these applications and lay the groundwork for future products.
Clinical development of ex vivo organ perfusion devices
The new Graduate will research, design, implement and test improvements to the perfusion circuit of ex vivo organ perfusion systems, in order to improve Traferox’s current products as well as develop the technology that will be the basis of the company’s next-generation products used for multi-organ perfusion.
The new Graduate will establish manufacturing of the Lung Transport Device. They will also research and test components to monitor and control flow in perfusion circuits, which will be employed in Traferox’s next-generation organ perfusion products.
The purpose of this CanExport SMEs agreement is to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for activities related to export market development that are part of an export business case for a specific target market, particularly where activities are targeting departmental priority markets and sectors.
