A $29.5M investment in VITAL, a secure digital AI health infrastructure to leverage Canadian health data for trials, artificial intelligence, and a learning health system.
The Canada Biomedical Research Fund and Biosciences Research Infrastructure Fund aims to improve pandemic readiness and sector growth by strengthening research and talent capacity in Canada and contributing to and leveraging collaborations across the entire biomanufacturing ecosystem and various sectors.
To support the federal government’s commitment to maintain a strong and effective publicly funded health care system through investments in emerging and demonstrated innovations in priority areas, such as palliative and end-of-life care, home and community care, mental health care and other federal, provincial-territorial and emerging priorities.
To strengthen responses to drug and substance use issues in Canada.

Funding will support research and development to identify solutions to National Defence’s Moral Trauma on the Frontline – See, Prevent and Treat Challenge. Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) in collaboration with Canada’s defence, security and public safety communities are looking for state-of-the-art research on “moral injury” and cutting edge prevention models and treatment strategies, in support of DND/CAF personnel, healthcare workers and First Responders at the front lines of the current pandemic, in order to provide for the long-term mental health of these populations.

The overall goal is to develop “ARIADNE” (platform for Accelerated and pRecisIon pAndemic Diagnostics and iNfection hEalth), a novel decentralized molecular analytical tool for deployment in the ‘non-expert’ care settings for timely stratification and triage of patients. The proof-of-principle work will target sepsis, a complex and heterogeneous life-threatening dysregulated response to infection that rapidly progresses to multi-organ failure and death when not identified and treated appropriately. It integrates NRC's microfluidic technology (PowerBlade) with novel gene circuit-based molecula
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2), is commonly diagnosed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) to detect viral RNA in patient samples. While pathogen diagnosis is critical, patient outcomes vary depending upon the host’s immune response to the virus. Currently, there are no tests that inform - at the point-of-need - how to risk stratify patients once they test positive for SARS-CoV2. Identifying subgroups of COVID patients that are more likely to require specific therapies, tertiary level care or who

Antimicrobial resistance is a top 10 global health threat and innovations are required to combat a silent pandemic expected to cause more deaths than cancer by 2050. A leading candidate is the use of the oldest natural enemy of bacteria—their own viruses called bacteriophages or phages. There are no specific clinical criteria for bacteriophage susceptibility and testing with routine methods is cumbersome and manual. This Project proposes the use of a microfluidic device to screen bacteriophages for E. coli, Staphylococcus (including methicillin-resistant S. aureus), and Pseudomonas (including
DISTURBED FLUID DRAINAGE AROUND EYE - AN IMPORTANT MISSING PIECE IN THE PUZZLE OF VISION LOSS IN ASTRONAUTS? Vision loss due to Space Associated Neuro-Ocular Syndrome (SANS) is observed in many astronauts, is poorly understood and remains one of the most feared hazards of space flight. The loss of gravity causes fluid shifts and these disturbances around the eye may be an important piece of the puzzle. Novel non-invasive techniques will be used to examine eye and lymphatic fluid changes for the first time in a model of SANS. Discovering impaired entry and exit of fluid in and from around the e
This project is to improve energy efficiency in Canada's commercial/institutional building sector.
Vision loss due to Space Associated Neuro-Ocular Syndrome (SANS) is observed in many astronauts, is poorly understood, and remains one of the most feared hazards of space flight. The loss of gravity causes shift of fluids, including blood to the upper body, and these disturbances around the eye, especially in the choroid, the most vascularized tissue in the body, may be an important piece of the puzzle. Novel non-invasive eye imaging techniques will be used to examine blood vessel changes in the choroid for the first time in a model of SANS. Discovering biomarkers of excess and persistent bloo
Through the application of national and local priorities, the CSJ program seeks to provide youth, particularly those who face barriers to employment with access to work opportunities. Funded employers must demonstrate that they are providing quality work experiences for youth that provide opportunities to develop and improve their skills.
