Field measurements in the St. Lawrence Estuary to assess contaminants impacting St. Lawrence Estuary Belugas (SLEB)
Applications involving laser welding continue to expand in North America. Growth is strong in the manufacturing sector, where laser welding offers increased productivity compared to conventional processes. However, some defects can affect this productivity, especially in the case of aluminum alloys, which have a significant potential impact on lightweighting strategies. The main goal of this project is to increase productivity in laser welding by integrating online defect characterization using Industry 4.0 concepts, significantly reducing subsequent quality-control steps. Based on the use of
This project, involving remote sensing specialists and oceanographers from universities and government departments, aims to leverage NASA's PACE mission to improve the accuracy of ocean color observations, particularly in eastern Canada, to better understand the ocean's capacity to uptake carbon and its changes over time. By enhancing phytoplankton biomass estimation and extracting additional information on phytoplankton properties, the research aligns with objectives to address climate change, foster partnerships, and enhance ocean monitoring efforts critical for ecosystem health and carbon m
Coastal areas are of paramount importance for global economic and social development. Vegetated coastal ecosystems provide numerous ecosystem services and are among the most productive habitats and efficient carbon sinks worldwide. Arctic expansion of vegetated coastal ecosystems may play an essential role in future biodiversity and carbon sequestration along the long Canadian coast, but quantitative tools are lacking. The project proposes to evaluate the potential of two hyperspectral cameras developed within the frame of the WaterSat initiative to assess three major forms of algae found in
This grant supports the Université du Québec à Rimouski in the various scientific studies needed to understand the phenomenon of cliff erosion in the Cap Bon Ami sector of Forillon National Park. The various studies of the project will make it possible to understand the main mechanisms responsible for the erosion of the cliffs of Cap Bon Ami in a context of climate change and to identify potential instabilities and areas at risk.
The primary goal of this project is to conduct a quantitative analysis of shoreline evolution and future trends while examining the processes driving changes along the coast of southern Victoria Island. This includes a particular focus on hydrodynamic factors such as waves, water levels, and storms, as well as the influence of local coastal permafrost conditions. This project also aims to build local capacity for coastal monitoring in the Arctic, providing communities with the necessary tools and knowledge to address the challenges posed by a changing coastline.

The objective of the Project is to identify landscape configurations that limit wildfire likelihood in order to enhance fire management activities and reduce exposure to wildland fire risk in northern Quebec.

The project aims to increase metallographic laboratory autonomy and facilitate the development and optimization of processes, such as high-pressure vacuum casting (HPVDC) of aluminum, cold spraying of aluminum (CSAM) and steel made by selective laser melting (SLM), by applying generative artificial intelligence (AI) models. The project will focus first on increasing efficiency by quickly and cost-effectively generating machine learning datasets with adjustable features, making it possible to generate aluminum and steel microstructures with variations in process parameters and sample preparatio
The objective is to examine the influence of genetic lineages, as well as environmental and edaphic factors, on the composition and structure of the soil microbiome. In a second step, we wish to analyse black spruce genomic data to explore the concept of temporal conditional neutrality in order to better understand the interactions between population dynamics and adaptive evolutionary responses to Quaternary climate change.
The funding received will be distributed to eligible students to help offset the high costs of conducting research in the north.
