Virtual Marine (VM) is a leader in simulator-based training for small vessel (lifeboat and fast response boat) and ice management operations. VM collects data from multiple simulators in the field which is used to analyze performance and improve training programs. To deal with an increasing volume of data, VM aims to develop methods to autonomously combine data from multiple simulator types. To extend value to users, software will be developed to utilize data sets to inform machine learning models used in adaptive trainers, and to use training data as inputs to a Decision Support System to mit
Develop the means to deliver Emergency training to the marine industry through simulation systems with embedded training content that will provide accurate student tracking and performance evaluation and ensure positive and enjoyable student engagement using scalable and flexible technology that can demonstrate the effectiveness of autonomous simulation as a teaching/learning system.
Carry out national and international marketing activities
VMT will develop new Virtual Reality and desktop trainers designed for workplace training on marine vessels and equipment. The simulators will provide safe and isolated training and will capture data to improve training and performance.
The funding provided by the IAP program is intended to assist innovative small and medium-sized enterprises in the start-up phase that cannot access existing commercial support related to COVID-19.
Provide assistance to mitigate impacts of Covid-19
Virtual Marine’s ice management simulators are currently instructor-led and performance tracking is recorded and measured by an instructor. In this project, new software and scenarios will be developed for the ice management simulators to provide automated tracking and autonomous scenarios, and features will be implemented to assess performance in a variety of automated scenarios that have been developed for ice navigation training (e.g. ice breaking, pack ice management and ice recognition). Subsequently, additional software modules will be developed to track performance data and to form comp
This project seeks to develop a high-fidelity "stimulation" solution to bridge advanced marine simulation software with real-world small vessel plotters. By creating a translation layer that feeds simulation environmental data into a specialized hardware interface and a native National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA 2000 (N2K)) library, the project will enable hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) training on commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) devices. A key focus of this development is ensuring that the translation layer and new NMEA 2000 capabilities are seamlessly integrated into the existing softw
Virtual Marine will expand on previous export successes for its products in Scandinavia and Western Europe to penetrate the large and influential UK maritime market, through direct meetings, trade events, and product demonstrations.
Hire a qualified sales and marketing manager
Virtual Marine will build on previous global export successes to penetrate the U.K. market. More specifically, it will leverage the U.K. regulatory approval of July, 2017, that now permits simulation to be used for lifeboat training.
The Universal Digital Vessel (UDV) Project will combine the technologies and expertise of Genoa Design International Ltd., Virtual Marine, Gastops and Modest Tree to create a relevant digital workspace that can be used by marine personnel in vessel design, construction, operation, maintenance and training innovation, without fear of violating IP rights. The consortium members will explore an innovative approach to shipbuilding and the life of a vessel, that could result in shared access to information and tools created along the way.
As Virtual Marine continues to deliver more simulators to clients around the world, the number of issue inquiries and tickets from clients, both internally and externally, increase proportionally. This project will see the hiring of a recent Bachelor of Sciences (Computer Science) graduate hired to work on the development and deployment of a computerized and on-line system, to be known as Knowledge Base, which will help clients find answers to solve their technical issues (e.g., setup, troubleshooting and maintenance). This system will help Virtual Marine scale out its client support program w
Advancement of current toolset and processes to rapidly create synthetic geographical areas, including but not limited to terrain, bathymetry, and radar information, that can be inserted in all our product lines. Synthetic geographical areas will match real life data as shown in modern nautical charts. This project will focus on two regions, North America and Polar waters.
The Youth employee will to be tasked with optimizing inventory management including the adoption of a system that automates tracking and control, minimizing manual tasks and enhancing overall efficiency.
The purpose of this CanExport SMEs agreement is to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for activities related to export market development that are part of an export business case for a specific target market, particularly where activities are targeting departmental priority markets and sectors.

The recent graduate from the College of the North Atlantic's Video Game Art & Design Diploma Program will build new scenarios for Virtual Marine’s online training simulators focusing specifically on adding gameplay elements to make the scenarios more engaging. This will include adding game design elements (story, feedback, scoring systems) to motivate users.
