Enhance maritime intelligence monitoring through hyperspectral imaging
Canada’s space strategy states that “fewer than 10% of Canadian farms currently use satellite imagery, and that increasing that to just 25% by 2027 could lead to cost savings of $650M to 1.3B.” This proposal describes AgSat, a nanosatellite that will provide “hyperspectral” images of farms, enabling the optimization of water and fertilizer which in turn reduces GHG emissions and saves Canadian farmers hundreds of millions of dollars per year. AgSat will address the lack of affordable, available, and high-resolution hyperspectral imagery. Some firms using Hyperspectral imagery have shown $20/a
Wyvern develops satellite technologies that serve an emerging solutions market for agriculture and beyond. This project develops technologies that solve critical challenges in how hyperspectral data is processed and presented to this marketplace.
Commercialize a satellite hyperspectral imaging platform - Budget 2021
The proposed project advances Wyvern’s proprietary deployable optics technology wherein optical components of an Earth observation (EO) payload are stowed compactly on launch and unfurled in orbit. The smaller, lighter resultant payload minimizes cost of launch. This enables cost-efficient collection of high-quality hyperspectral imagery – imagery with a large number of bands – of the Earth. Project objectives include design, test, and characterization of lightweight composite material mechanisms for deployment of optical surfaces and accompanying baffling. This project will improve the space-
This project will advance the development of an automated control system for hyperspectral satellite optical telescope payloads. Existing technology will be matured to TRL6 and enable future hyperspectral imaging satellite payloads developed by Wyvern. In addition to technology development the project will support the retention and training of highly qualified personnel and advance the capability and capacity of the Canadian space industry.
This project will develop Wyvern’s end-to-end data pipeline for hyperspectral satellite imagery, an API-based tasking system, and a web console. The outcomes of this project will enable reliable, scalable, and secure processing from raw downlinked data to Level 1 and Level 2 products from four satellites, unlock new reseller channels, and are expected to improve uptake with government and enterprise customers.
This project will prepare a Canadian Earth observation SME to participate in the defence sector through two streams: (1) achieving Controlled Goods Program readiness, including personnel security clearances and establishment of digital security controls; and (2) developing a detailed business case and long-term plan for a hyperspectral maritime vessel identification product serving Canadian and allied defence customers. The project strengthens Canada's domestic space-based defence industrial capacity.
This is a research and development project on novel opto-mechanical systems for space-based Earth Observation. These mechanisms will be incorporated onto Wyverns first satellites.
The purpose of this CanExport SMEs agreement is to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for activities related to export market development that are part of an export business case for a specific target market, particularly where activities are targeting departmental priority markets and sectors.
This role will significantly enhance internal operations performance at Wyvern. It will increase the productivity of the executive team by taking on operational tasks and duties that are critical to the success of the company.
Wyvern is developing novel optical technology to significantly miniaturize earth observation satellites while maintaining performance. This will enable the provision of affordable high-quality imagery for precision agriculture.
This project involves the assembly, integration, and testing of the earth observation system, including aligning the optics of the telescope and verifying system performance. By the project's end, Wyvern expects a fully tested engineering model to validate design and performance before launch.
